In an effort to ensure 100 % segregation of waste in the Mangan City, Mangan Nagar Panchayat (MNP) is planning to start a“Door to Door ‘Public awareness campaign on Source Segregation of waste through which the MNP aims to educate citizen about the importance of source segregating dry and wet waste.
The Mangan Nagar Panchayat (MNP) has expected to decrease the amount of solid waste that goes to the dumping grounds with this initiative.
The Lower Mangan Bazar ward under MNP has been selected for the pilot project where in the people are enlightened on the process and method related to the segregation of waste.
The Municipal Executive Officer MEO, Mangan Nagar Panchayat, Tempo Tashi Bhutia informed that it’s an effort that pays everybody and solves half the city’s problem of waste management as waste segregation costs nothing and takes hardly any extra time. It’s a matter of understanding and more about responsible behavior. “
He further added that since the primary duty of Nagar Panchayat is to Manage Solid Waste. The Mangan Nagar Panchayat had conducted several awareness program (information, education and communication strategy) to spread the message to increase awareness among citizens regarding waste management, to improve civic sense and also streamline the role played by NGOs in this process.
MNP had also distributed Green/Blue dustbin and Eco Bin for composting wet waste but some are not utilising in proper manner as it came to the notice of MNP that the dustbins being used as a container or water bucket due to which it is unable to achieve 100 % result. The primary reasons being that most of the residents do not comply and still hand-over the mixed waste to the collectors.
Hence, he appealed all the house owner, business communities and tenants to cooperate in this drive in order to make Mangan clean & responsible city and make it an example for others to look upon with these little steps.
