Suldung, June 27
A training cum demonstration program on off farm inputs was held at Suldung, West Sikkim under the aegis of the MOVCD. The training was organized by FPO in collaboration with HCC&DD and Service Provider Agency Mevedir. Suldung area in West Sikkim is under the Internal Control System management of Mevedir and under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development program various activities have been going on in the past to augment the income of the farmers through the collective effort of the Farmer Producer Organization of the area. The several Farmer Interest Groups affiliated with the FPO were invited as participants to this training program to receive these off farm inputs and to be aware of how to use these organic certified inputs in their major cash crops.
The key participants of this training were Shri A.B. Rai (HDO, SuldungKamling), Shri Ram Kumar Thapa (FPO President) and Shri Gyal Tshering Lepcha (Panchayat President) and the key resource person of this training was Mr. Jason Nim Sherpa from Mevedir.
The training session was chaired by Shri A.B. Rai (HDO) who welcomed all the participants and briefed them about the days training focused on the use of the off farm inputs. Thereafter Mr. Jason Sherpa explained about the role of the biofertilizersbiopesticides in controlling diseases various diseases that affect the productivity of the cash crops like ginger, turmeric, buckwheat and cardamom. Mr. Sherpa explained briefly the usage of the various bio fertilizers like Green SK Azoto, Green SK PSB, Green SK Fratura, VAM Plus, Sheel Rhizobium and Cal-spiral. How these inputs could be used in seed treatment and foliar and soil application methods and the frequency and dosage of the inputs was explained. Likewise the bio pesticides such as Bio Magic, Bio Power, Sylderma and Yug was explained and how effectively it can control pests like borers, khumlay and other pests was also explained to the farmers. The various visible and tangible benefits of using these inputs were explained and how each certified farmer needs to extend cooperation in the usage of these inputs within the expiry of these inputs was explained.
The Farmer Producer Organization of the area would be responsible in distributing and monitoring these inputs in the area and reciprocally the members of the FIGs need to be responsible in using these off farm inputs in their fields. Any queries or difficulty in application of these inputs Mr. Sherpa explained that Mevedir staff would be available to explain and assist the farmers of this Suldung area. The various inputs can also be used in their horticultural crops like bitter and bottle gourds, cucumbers, okra, tomato and chillies.
Before concluding, the inputs were distributed to all the farmers who attended this training and also encouraged to use these inputs as instructed in the training program.About 45 farmers had attended this days training.
