I shall continue my relentless fight against the enemies of democracy for the sake of Sikkim and the Sikkimese people: Pawan Chamling
Gangtok, June 27
Sikkim is usually known for its peaceful set up. However, this time, there has sure been e breach in the democratic setup of this peaceful State.
Expressing his anguish over the recent incident at Sikkim Legislative assembly Former Chief Minister and SDF Party President Pawan Chamling termed it a Murder of Democracy.
Chamling today in his official Facebook page said the founding fathers of this great country reposed their faith on democracy where no one but the people would have the supreme power to decide their destiny. The Assembly is a temple of democracy, the modern-day Parthenon. However, on 3rd June 2019, this temple of democracy was defiled for the first time in Sikkim’s history he added.
Chamling further said, the SDF MLAs including myself were hooted, hurled abusive words by a crowd of unruly hooligans in a naked display of utter contempt for the Constitution which is the embodiment of democracy. In a place where one is not even permitted to sit cross-legged, hurling abuses at the public representatives amounted to the very murder of democracy in Sikkim.
As a firm advocate of democracy, I believe that death of democracy is greater than the death of the 7 billion people of the word. This incident shall remain in Sikkim’s history as an indelible blot that desecrated the sanctity of this temple of democracy and heralded dark days for Sikkim Chamling added.
I shall continue my relentless fight against the enemies of democracy for the sake of Sikkim and the Sikkimese people said Chamling.
