Sikkim Karatekas have returned back home with 15 medals with their impressive performance in the 5th International Karate Championship 2019 held from 26 to 28 July at Netaji indoor stadium, Kolkata in West Bengal. A Sikkim State Karate-Do Association [SSKA] team has bagged 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 6 bronze medals for Sikkim in the championship.
Babyana Gurung won two medals for Sikkim in individual Kata and open Challenge Kata, while other gold medallists are Bharghavi Cintury and Sushmita Subba. Likewise, Anurodh Rai, Sakima Rai, Avinash Chettri, Biswas Gurung and Jerusha Tamang won a silver medal each and bronze medallists are Sukraj Limboo, Kunal Ghimiray, Sita Subba, Sushmita Subba, Abigyan Cintury and Anuraj Subba.
A 15-member SSKA team, led by Binam Gurung as team coach and Bimala Tamang as team manager, represented the State in the championship.
SSKA has felicitated the team members for their outstanding performance in the championship and for winning medals and laurels for the State. On the occasion, president, SSKA Bijoy Gurung, SSKA general secretary, Bidhan Ballav Subba and SSKA working president, Bhim Bahadur Subba congratulated the team members by offering khadas and flower bouquet here this morning. They also congratulated the team coach and manager and expressed best wishes to the entire team for upcoming competitions.
