The Affected Citizen Of Teesta (ACT) and Save Dzongu organized meeting at Hee Gyathang Panchyat Ghar today in order to protest the implementation of 510 MW Teesta Stage IV HE project. Present in the meeting were ACT General Secretary, Gyatso Lepcha, Tenzing Lepcha (ACT) member.(c)ACT member Cum Former Chairman, Chopel Lepcha, Save Dzongu President, Ugen Lepcha, Kalzang Dorjee Lepcha, Champa Leekden, Zilla members and Panchyat members of Hee Gyathang and Lingdong Barfok GPUs along with the public.
The meeting started after offering prayers at Ring Khola by Boongthing (Lepcha priest), Tshering Lepcha to appease the guardian deity for the safety of Dzongu and it’s people.
SHG, member, Chenjay Ongmu Lepcha on behalf of SHG Heegyathang GPUs opposed the project and said that article 371f will be in threat if the project will be implemented in Dzongu.
Similarly, ACT/ General Secretary, Gyatso Lepcha expressed gratitude to those who came from out side Dzongu to support for the cause and stated that ACT has been fighting against the Project since last 12 years.
Since our battle against the project from 2007 we faces lots of challenges and learned a lot from it. He further added that a rally will be organised in Gangtok in coming days for which the date will be finalised later on, here, he appealed all the young generation to come forward to help in saving our ancestors soil of Dzongu.
Save Dzongu Member, Kalzang Dorjee Lepcha said that we are here to save our motherland and we are ready to die for the cause. He further recollected that during the election time we already have submitted the petition with CM of Sikkim PS Golay, Minister Kunga Nima Lepcha and Minister Sonam Lama and they promised us to scrap NHPC stage IV but no action has been taken even after the formation of SKM Government.
If SKM Party did not scrap NHPC stage IV from Dzongu Constituency I will resign from the party said SKM CLC President from Dzongu Constituency.
ACT Member, Tenzing Lepcha reminded about the support from students during the hunger strike in Gangtok in the year 2007 it’s very big support from our students Dzongu areas and many had to face the allegations of anti-government. He also stated that the Lepchas are nature worshiper and dependent with rivers, lakes and mountains.
