New Delhi, July 9
Minister HRDD K N Lepcha, accompanied by MP Lok Sabha Indra Hang Subba and Additional Chief Secretary HRDD G P Upadhyaya called on the Union HRD Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank in his office in Shastri Bhawan on 8th July. The meeting lasted for almost 40 minutes. During the meeting, the Additional Director General in MHRD Sri Madan Mohan was also present. Wide ranging discussions were held with Union Minister on giving grants for Sikkim University for expediting it’s campus construction and allotment of land for NIT Sikkim. An amount of Rs 303 crores was immediately requested for the campus of Sikkim University. The Union Minister was extremely positive towards these two demands of the State and he assured to take positive action immediately. He directed the
Addl DG to include these two things in the 100 days agenda of the Ministry and hoped to travel to Sikkim to lay the foundation stone of NIT soon. He further appreciated various initiatives of the State Government in the field of Education and promised full support of his Ministry. The Minister HRDD K N Lepcha apprised the Union Minister about Education and Health being the two topmost priorities of the new Government of Sikkim. After meeting the Union Minister,another meeting was held with the Secretary School and Higher Education in the Ministry and various issues were discussed. Minister also thanked MHRD during his meetings for their consistent support.
