Minister for Urban Development and Housing Department, NK Subba has inaugurated 202 unit houses at Majhigaon in Rangpo, East Sikkim on Wednesday. The total project of the project is Rs 2800.83 lakhs, in which Rs 2177.56 from the Centre and Rs 623.27 lakhs from the State government.
During the inauguration ceremony, keys of house were provided to five families of Phoolmaya Sherpa, Purnamaya Baraily, Phoolmaya Majhi, Ganesh Darjee and Maya Tamang of their units, who entered into their respective houses. It is informed that keys to rest beneficiaries would be provided very soon. These units have been provided free of cost to the people of poor financial background of urban areas.
On the occasion, UDHD Minister has also inaugurated a foot over bridge from Rangpo Bazaar to Hospital. The bridge has been built by the State government at the cost of Rs 168.89 lakhs. Area MLA, Gopal Baraily, SDF party leader, KK Thatal, Rangpo Nagar Panchayat president Maya Cintury and others were also present on the occasion.
UDHD Minister stated that these houses have been provided to the people of poor financial background of urban areas to make Sikkim Kaccha Ghar Free State. He added that there was no any kaccha ghar now in the urban area and small units have been providing to the people in Rangpo and other urban areas. He stressed that beneficiaries of these houses need to take the responsibility of these houses for the proper maintenance.
Minister mentioned that around 2000 families have been residing on the land of Forest Department in urban areas and the State government had earlier took the decision to regularise the land who have been residing since 20 years but has now decreased to 10 years for regularization of the land. He informed that UDHD would provide the compensation to Forest Department in a single lot to regularize these lands. He added that lands will be regularized on the application presented by families with proof of the residing in the land since 10 years. He added that such cases were mainly at in and around Gangtok.
Minister stated that the upcoming election was just a formality to conduct the election in every five years otherwise there was no any doubt that SDF party would again win all 32 seats in the election.
The programme was also addressed by Area MLA, Gopal Baraily and Rangpo Nagar Panchayat Executive Officer, Himmat Rai.
