Many were injured in the public-Police clash during the last day of Jorethang Maghaey Mela on Thursday.
As per the report police resorted to lathicharge to restore law and order at Jorethang Maghey Mela on Thursday which had reportedly gone for a toss following an argument between Police-public regarding the closing of Stalls in Mela.
As per the report tension aroused after the owner of traditional stalls, serving food and drinks.at Jorethang Maghey Mela refused to close the stalls even after the repeated warning from the Police.
Police sources have further informed that the closing time for the festival was 9 pm. However, after a relaxation of one hour and warning issued for three times the owners did not close the shops.
As per the witnesses present in the scene they have alleged that police have used excessive force and beat the staffs, owners and customers present in the traditional stalls.
The FIR has been filed against police and IRB personnel stationed at Jorethang police station for misuse of power by citizens. Similarly, the FIR has also been lodged against the people who have misbehaved with the police.
When queried about Magisterial orders before lathicharge the police stated that situation was out of hand with people attacking the local thana which led the police to use their discretionary power.
