The Sherpa community of SiktamTikpur GPU under Daramdin constituency is celebrating their cultural festival, Losar at the newly constructed public ground of Sapreynagi. The 16 days Losar festival, organized by the local NGOs of Sapreynagi commenced on 23 January will culminate on 8 February. The festival today had presence of minister N.K Subba as chief guest along with area MLA D.N Sherpa and other dignitaries.

N.K Subba in his brief speech expressed that Losar festival celebrated by Sherpa community holds immense cultural importance for them and initiation of such festival not only helps the community to foster the integrity but also ensures preservation and propagation of culture and traditions of Sherpa community. He appreciated the organizing committee for coming up with an idea to organize festival on cultural theme. Minister maintained that religious and cultural secularism have been well ensured in the state and the SDF government has provided equal social and economic rights to all the communities of the state.
Speaking about various public welfare works initiated by the SDF government, N.K Subba opined that development of all the sectors has taken place in the state due to people oriented effective plans and policies of the state government. “Sikkim has become prosperous due to the state government’s policies centric to the state and its people. Nobody can deny the fact that an incredible development has happened under the SDF government”, he said.
Claiming that the SDF party will form the government again by sweeping the upcoming assembly election, N.K Subba said that the party will be victorious in all the 32 constituencies of the state along with lone Loksabha seat. The people will vote for SDF this time again’ he said.
He shared that the SDF party is strong in all aspects and the party will declare its candidates for the upcoming election within a month. He maintained that the SDF party will field candidates having clean image and good rapport with the people.
Attacking the opposition parties of the state, Minister N.K Subba called them nothing but a group of some opportunists having vested political interest. He said that the opposition parties do not have people based programmes with them. Lamenting that the opposition parties are intimidating the people with the agendas based on falsehood and delusions, Subba exhorted that the people should not get carried away by their delusive political propagandas.
Subba informed that special gram Sabha will be held on 4th February across the state and the names of the left out people in the recently concluded Gram Swarojgar Mela will be included in the list of beneficiaries. He added that benefits to the left out people will be made available within 15 February.
The highlight of today’s event was two quarter final matches of Yugley Sherpa Memorial Football Tournament. In the first match Angden FC entered the semifinal by defeating NBC FC 2 to 1. In the second match Sumbuk FC emerged victorious against Orange Village FC in the tie breaker.
Stalls of traditional cuisines, cultural programme and other activities are the other extravagant of the festival.
The organizing committee today felicitated Minister N.K Subba, area MLA D.N Sherpa and the social workers Dawa Sherpa and PasangDorjee Sherpa for their contributions towards the society.
