Sikkimese Janta will punish the Goonda Party in coming election: PD Rai
Gangtok, Jan 22
The ruling SDF Party has termed the press conference held today in Gangtok by few members of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) was a desperate attempt to distort facts and cast shadow on well-meaning initiatives of the ruling SDF government.
SDF Spokesperson PD Rai is a press release today said thatit is a continuation of SKM’s politics of untruth and chaos.
Little wonder then that they are a goonda party with very little to talk about how they would work for the people of Sikkim Mr. Rai added. He further said that the malicious and false propaganda can only go so far. The people of Sikkim are no fools and these parties will be punished in the elections that are round the corner he added.
The opposition in the state have been trying to divert political dialogue in the state, steering it towards unproductive debate by spreading false propaganda. SDF’s political dialogue isbased on reasoning and logic and the strength of having achieved so much for the people of Sikkim said Mr. Rai.
On Corruption allegation, Mr. Rai discarded by saying Ironically, the allegations of corruption are emerging from members and followers of the party, whose leader, P S Golay has served a sentence on charges of corruption which was even upheld by the Supreme Court of India. The charges against was brought by the late Nar Bahadur Bhandari. SKM members are getting agitated because their own leader is not eligible to contest the elections.
On the issue of the he Citizenship Amendment BillMr Rai stated that the Opposition parties are confusing SDF party’s support in the Parliament to 124th Amendment Bill (which gave reservation right to poor among forward castes) with the Citizenship Amendment Bill. SDF has ensured that even if the Citizenship Amendment Bill is enforced, which so far has not been passed by the Rajya Sabha, it will not impact Sikkim in the way that it may impact other parts of the North East India. The integrity of the 371F will be intact as it has nothing to do with this.
Mr Rai termed the SKM’s allegation on CM Chamling of practicing casteism completely baseless, and shows ignorance of the Opposition. “Jaat Hoina, Neeti Milao” captures the essence of SDF’s policies in 24 years of governance in the state of Sikkim. Under the leadership of HCM Pawan Chamling, the SDF government ensured that the backward and marginalized sections of all communities were effectively integrated into the social and economic mainstream.
They have also have adequate voice in the decision and implementation process of policies. Politically most communities have representation in the State Assembly. Reservation to all sections have been maintained. In fact, after coming to power in 1994, CM Chamling championed the cause of the disadvantaged communities by implementing several policies, from reservation to financial aid in higher education to SC/ST and OBCs. The forward classes have been designated as State OBCs. Social justice has remained the strongest pillar on which SDF Government stands. Can the SKM explain the peace and prosperity of the State of Sikkim enjoys today?
On Limboo-Tamang Reservation Mr. Rai said that the issue of reservation has been raised time and again in Parliament, as well as with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. The Central government is responsible and has to bring the matter into Parliament to amend the relevant acts so that the Constitutional Rights of the Limboo and Tamang communities are met. The State Government has done what it had to do in 2017 itself. This is what the Supreme Court has also directed in January 2016. The SDF government will continue to raise this issue, along with the issue of giving Tribal Status to the eleven left out communities from Sikkim under the aegis of the 371 F provisions of the Constitution of India.
