Ruling Sikkim Democratic Front Party today observed Membership Drive Day across Sikkim amid scores of new members enrollment.
Simik-Lingzey unit under Khamdong-Singtam constituency today celebrated the membership day and started massive membership drive from Chandey ward.
The programme was led by the party’s membership drive chairman, Acharya Tshering Lama accompanied him were SDF panchayat cell general secretary, Harihar Poudyal, block president, Karma Dadul, zilla panchayat, SherapKazi, panchayat members and other functionaries including CEC, CLC, WLC and BLC level members of the party.
During the programme, the members made door-to-door visit of every household of the ward and aware them about party’s future programmes and policies meant for the welfare and upliftment of the Sikkimese people.
Likewise, the SDF party today organized a membership drive-cum-election campaign programme at Upper Lingdum under Martam- Rumtek constituency in East Sikkim. The programme was chaired by former minister-cum-party vice president, DB Thapa, who was accompanied by area MLA, Dr. Michung Bhutia, members from the different level party functionaries and public in general.
In his address, Mr. Thapa, who is also the head of the election campaign monitoring team of the constituency said that SDF is the only party led by its president and chief minister Pawan Chamling which can maintain peace and prosperity in the state and work for the welfare and upliftment of the Sikkimese people.
He informed that because of its huge size, several beneficiaries from the constituency might have left out in the first lists of One Family One Job and Janta Mela schemes but assured that they will be covered in the next phase.
Mr. Thapa further said that full-fledged door-to-door election campaign will begin for the constituency from 29 January and will ends up in the month of February with block level campaigning.
In his address, the area MLA, Dr. Michung thanked the party president for appointing Mr. Thapa as the president of the election monitoring committee of the constituency and also congratulated him for acquiring the post.
The MLA maintained that he had won last election from the SKM party ticket but left it because of the fact that SKM did not have able leadership to led Sikkim and its people in the developmental path.
The meeting was also addressed by CLC general secretary, Bibek Subba, East District Chelli Morcha convenor, Pemkit Lepcha, CLC president, SaradKharka and former panchayat, Pempa Bhutia.
The vote of thanks was presented by Lower Lingdum ward panchayat Kumar Rai.
Similarly, SDF membership drive was also carried out in various wards of Tumin-Lingee constituency.
A constituency level drive was carried out at the party office in Suntalay, South Sikkim which was attended by Lingmoo-Payong GPU Panchayat President, YogeshSikkimay, Panchayat Members, public and party workers.
The wards covered today were Singbel [led by Ward Panchayat Miss Malati Chettri], Lower Samdong [Ward Panchayat, DherajBhattarai], Lower Tintek [Ward Panchayat, Miss PurnakumGiri], Seleybong[Ward Panchayat,Muktinath Khatiwara], Darakharka [Ward Panchayat KailashAdhikari], Upper Tintek, Lower Kambal &Maidam [party workers], Lower Lingee [Ward Panchayat, Kamal Thapa], Kokaley[Ward Panchayat’HariharJanardan], Dikchu Zang [Ward Panchayat, ChandrauLal Sharma] and Lower Rakdong [Chelli Convenor, Ms Tika Nepal]. The whole programme was co-ordinated by the Youth Convenor, Om Prakash Thapa alongwith different level party workers.
