We have been working to transform our youths into the empowered human resource since inception of SDF government in 1994.  We made arrangement for free education and created ample infrastructures to ensure our youths and students should get the best and quality education said Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.  
CM was speaking at the Platinum Jubilee celebration of Tikalal Niraula Senior Secondary School, Central Pendam today.
The programme was attended by Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, Zilla Adhakshya, Zilla Panchayats, Panchayats, Addl. Chief Secretary, HRDD and others officials from the Government Departments, Teachers and Students from various schools and local public.
He urged the students to reap benefits of educational facilities being provided by the State government. He stressed on the need for making education life-oriented. He also stated that education was of primary importance and it should be about holistic development making a person capable, confident and it should serve the purpose of human development which is fundamental to development of any state or nation.
He informed that free laptops will be distributed from Class X to University Level during Janta Mela scheduled to be starting from 16th January and even the Self Help Groups will avail of this benefit this time.
Talking about the present educational scenario of the State, the Chief Minister informed that the State government is spending 20% of the budget on upgradation of education. He updated that on January 14, the foundation stone for the Medical College, Sichey will be laid, wherein education will be free for students of Sikkim which will in turn bring Sikkim at the forefront with regards to medical education.
Further, the Chief Minister spoke in brief about the various schemes and scholarship opportunities conceptualized by the State government for the benefit of the students and advocated the students to take full advantage out of these schemes. He stressed especially to the students to avail the coaching facilities for UPSC provided by the State government. He also added that currently Sikkim has the highest literacy rate in the country.
The Chief Minister informed about the Rojgaar Mela which will be held on 12th January at Paljor Stadium wherein appointment orders of twenty thousand youth will be distributed under the ‘one family, one job’ scheme of the Government.
Chief Minister Chamling further stated that the state government has been working relentlessly to provide better welfare measures to the people of Sikkim. Tourism, Pilgrimage and Health can be a great source of employment in view of the state’s potential in these sectors, he said. Thus the unemployed youths should take the facilities provided by the Government and be self-reliant and self-sufficient, added the Chief Minister.
He said that “Sukumbasis” will be allotted a plot for housing. He also said that all the demands which have been placed by people during his 32 days Jan Sampark Abhiyan have all been sanctioned for the benefit of the Sikkimese people and added that sanction orders will be given during Janta Mela.
He announced that Grant in Aid will be given to monks, pundits, pasters and faith healers, annually.
He also declared Teej and Mangshirey Purnima as Government holidays. He announced Rs. 1 Crore 28 Lakhs to be given for the construction of Pranami Mandir at Central Pendam.
The Chief Minister felicitated the winners of the various Inter School Competitions and gave away the memento to the respective School teachers along with the Student of the Year Jorden Bhutia of Tikalal Niraula Sen. Sec School.
Earlier, Gopal Baraily, Area MLA in his welcome address expressed his gratitude towards the Chief Minister on behalf of the people of the constituency. He said that the development till date in the State as well as in area was possible due to the Chief Minister’s vision and hard work. He called upon the public to realize the holistic and sustainable developmental vision of the Chief Minister and asked them to come forward and take part in the success story of Sikkim. He also placed forward various development related demands of the Constituency.
Earlier, President, Platinum Jubilee Celebration Committee G.C. Khanal presented a brief report on the contribution provided by the several institutions and personalities in the 75 years of journey and its progress of the School.
During the celebration programme School principal of Tikalal Niraula Sen.Sec School highlighted on the School activities and its progress, and also placed some demands like repairing of School and Auditorium Building, Drainage System within School Premises, School Gate and the exemption of electricity arrear bill which has been of high amount. All the demands placed by the Principal were granted in-principal sanction by the Chief Minister in his address.
Earlier, the celebration also witnessed a welcome song and cultural programme by School Students of Tikalal Niraula Senior Secondary School and students from Mazitar.
