Mevedir, Service provider organized a GPU level training on 1st Dec 2018. The training program was conducted at Singyang GPU, West Sikkim.

Mevedir, Service provider organized a GPU level training on 1st Dec 2018. The training program was conducted at Singyang GPU, West Sikkim. The key participants of this training were Smt. KeshangDoma Bhutia (Panchayat President), Shri Jeewan Chettri (Panchayat Vice President), Shri PremLall Chettri (Panchayat member) along with progressive farmers of Singyang GPU. The resource person of this training was Mevedir Master Trainers – Mr. Biren Tiwari, Mrs. Sangmoo Lepcha & Ms. Ambika Basnett from Mevedir.

The training was started by outlining the importance of organic farming. Mr. Biren Tiwari (Mevedir Master Trainer) shared the information about the organic norms and how the land in GPU was being certified under NOP & NPOP norms. He explained the meaning of NOP & NPOP and how the farmers can contribute by adhering to the various organic norms and principles set by certification bodies. The farmers were also informed about the regular internal and external inspection that is being conducted in all the farms and also appealed the farmers to give cooperation during inspection.

The next session was chaired by Mrs. Sangmoo Lepcha who briefed about the importance of Trace Net Identification Number issued by the Government of India and maintained by the APEDA (Agriculture and Process Food Exporting Development Agency). She also informed the farmers about the various ICS documentation processes like Internal Inspection Checklist & Farmers Diary which has to be maintained for the project. The role of the farmers in the maintenance of the Farmers Diary was also highlighted.

Before closing the program Smt Keshang Doma Bhutia (Panchayat President distributed Madhayam compost to all the farmers who attended this day long farmers training. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Ambika Basnett and the program was concluded.
