Gangtok, Jan 9
The closing ceremony of Sports Activities & Winter Sports Coaching Camp 2018-19 under ‘Sports for Peace and Development’ [Vertical of Khelo India] was held here at Paljor Stadium on Wednesday morning. A total of 482 boys and girls were participated in different sports disciplines during this camp held at different venues in and around Gangtok. Thirty-three State coaches and non-departmental coaches and experts from different sports clubs and associations were assigned to impart training to young sportspersons.
The closing ceremony has the Director of Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Kamal Chettri as the chief guest and Additional District Magistrate [East], JC Namgyal was present as the guest of honour along with HRDD Joint Director [East] Tshering Kee Chingapa, who is also a member of Khelo India District Level Executive Committee, East, was present as the special guest among other dignitaries.
It is informed that the camp was organised by Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, government of Sikkim and Khelo India District Level Executive Committee, East District and sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, government of India. The camp had 12 disciplines of Athletics, Archery, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Football, Karate, Kick Boxing, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Wushu and Weight Lifting for the age group from 9 to 17 years boys and girls.
The same programme is underway at Pakyong Sub-Division and Rongli Sub-Division in five sports disciplines at different venues for both girls and boys, which was started on 4 January and will continue till 17 January.
