Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department, government of Sikkim and SangeetNatak Akademi North East Centre, Guwahati are jointly organizing a grand festival of folk, tribal and traditional presentations of India from 08 to 10 December at Lachen in North Sikkim. This three-day long event ‘Deshaj’ to be held at Lachen Dzumsa ground will have renowned personalities from music, drama and art fields from 21 States of the country.
The first day of the event will have presentations of Naumati Baja, Singhi Cham and Yak dance from Sikkim, Chakhesang music from Nagaland, Dhamel dance from Tripura, Cheraw dance from Mizoram, Manipuri folk dance and Kalbelia from Rajasthan. Likewise, the second and third day of the event will have the series of folk, cultural and traditional presentation by artists and groups of the participating States. The event will have the presence of renowned artists and nationally awarded and recognized personalities. CA&HD OSD Jagdish Sharma informed that participating artists and personalities from 21 States have already arrived in Gangtok and will leave for Lachen on Friday. He added that the department has taken a challenging task to organize this national level event at Lachen in North Sikkim in this chilly winter. He added that such event will help to encourage the initiative of Sikkim government to protect and promote folk, culture and traditional heritage of the State. He added that the event will showcase the culture and art of the country.
