Karmapa can visit Sikkim whenever he desires so: CM

Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has expressed that Sikkim Government has started Buddhist University in the State to make Buddhist monks well educated scholars and capable of promoting and preaching Buddhist philosophy across the world. He added that the modern education was imparted to monks along with their monastic teachings with the objective of widening their knowledge beyond performing prayers and rituals at monasteries. He mentioned that although there was no any demand of Buddhist University from any section but the State government has started the university to make monks well educated scholars.
CM was addressing the gathering as the chief guest on the ceremony of GuturChaam performed on the auspicious occasion of Kagyed Dance at Old Rumtek Monastery in East Sikkim on Thursday.CM also offered prayers in the benign presence of His Eminence the 12th GoshirGyalshab Rinpoche.
In his address, the CM mentioned that the State government has started Amji College in the State and has provided the opportunity to Bhutia, Lepcha and Nepali students of Sikkim to take education in Amji. He added that the government has made all arrangements for students in Bhutia, Lepcha and Limboo languages to take the higher education till the university level and professor in these languages have been appointed by the government.
While speaking on the development of Buddhism in the State, he stated that lots of works have been carried out so far for preservation and promotion of Buddhism during 24 years of SDF government in Sikkim. He informed that there was increase of huge numbers of monasteries in the State and monastic schools were started with free distribution of uniforms and books and salaries of monastic teachers have been enhanced. He expressed that modern education has been imparted to monks along with their monastic teachings.
CM mentioned about the contributions of three holy monks who crowned the first king in 1642 of Sikkim and informed that the State government has decided to construct statues of three holy monks at Yuksom in West Sikkim, which is the first capital of Sikkim. He informed that the construction will be completed in the period of one year.
On the occasion, he informed that due to continuous efforts of the State government, the Centre has given the permission for the visit of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa, OgyenTrinleyDorji to Sikkim and now it was up to His Holiness to visit Sikkim as and when he so desires. On the same, he urged monks not to get mislead or misguide on rumours as the ruling government has been working in the interest of all monasteries in Sikkim.
CM stated that SDF government has taken Sikkim to the new height in these 24 years of the governance and now Sikkim has been known world-wide for its exemplary development and progress. He added that people from Sikkim has been going outside to teach people of other parts of the country and the world. On the same, he urged everyone to come forward to work in the interest of Sikkim and its people to take Sikkim to the greater height.
He mentioned that the government has been provided free education to everyone till college level and educational institutions in all areas have been established in Sikkim to provide equal opportunity to every Sikkimese student to take the best education upto the higher level. He mentioned about various schemes, programmes and initiatives of the State government in the education sector to ensure the full and quality education to all.
He mentioned about One Family One Job programme of the government to appoint a member of every family on adhoc basis in the government. He informed that various benefits will be distributed to the people in the upcoming Janta Mela in the State. He informed that the government has built 31,000 houses in the State and this time benefits of 3000 houses will be distributed and construction will be started in February next year. He informed that benefits of the house upgradation will also be distributed along with other schemes and programmes to the people. He mentioned that SDF government has not left anyone behind but has been taking everyone together.
CM urged the people of Sikkim to increase their income by taking the full benefit of opportunities created by the government. He mentioned that SDF government has established the peace and security in the State and the government has been committed to maintain this peace and security. I have been doing the politics honestly and sincerely in the interest of Sikkim and to make it better as there was not big development for the people than to live in peace and freedom, he said. He urged youths to come forward for the responsible, positive and productive politics. He added that the people of Sikkim should vote for the better future of Sikkim and its people to keep the State in the right and secure hands.
CM announced that grants will be provided for purchasing ’Shentap’ (dress) for monks. He also assured to work on other demands placed by the people of the area.
