Artists and social workers from Sikkim and Darjeeling were honoured for contribution in their respective fields during the celebration of the 34th anniversary of Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi recently at New Delhi. The award function had the presence of renowned personalities of different fields in the national and international levels. The team of Sikkim and Darjeeling was led by a social worker, Geeta Ruchal to the function.
A renowned singer, Heera Rasaily from Darjeeling conferred with the prestigious Baba Saheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar National Fellowship Award, Ramna Chettri from Gangtok received Dr Ambedkar Distinguish Service Award and Sarita Thatal from Rabongla was honoured Virangana Savitri Bai National Fellowship Award. Likewise, Akal Bahadur Biswakarma from West Pendam, Dup Tshering Lepcha from Ralung and Homiya Kami from 8th Mile Lingdok received Baba Saheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Fellowship.
Ms Ruchal stated that artists and social workers from Sikkim and Darjeeling have been felicitated in this function to evaluate their contributions in social work, music, singing, painting and government service. She also expressed her immense happiness on the conferment of the prestigious award to a renowned singer, Heera Rasaily.
