Akhil Bharatiya Kirat Khambu, Kulung-Sotang Rai Sangh [ABKKKSRS] today celebrated its foundation day at Gairi Gaon, Assam Lingzey community hall. The meeting was chaired by Jyoti Prakash Tamang, Dean, Sikkim Central University. Also present in the meeting were Dr. Namrata thapa, HoD, Biology, Nar Bahadur Degree College, Tadong.
In his address, Mr. Tamang highlighted on the quality of education impart in the colleges of Sikkim and informed that at present there are total 32 departments are functioning under Sikkim University.
He further informed that since 2008, SU has given Bhutia, Lepcha and Limboo as optional language for the students and from 2016 these languages have been introduced in the post graduate level.
The Dean assured that in the coming years, these languages will be available for PhD courses.
Mr. Tamang informed that Rai language hears common but within it has different dialect and scripts. He emphasized that the younger generations should take responsibilities on developing scripts of Kulung Rai.
He further called upon all sections of Rai community to come forward and work together to make their scripts and dialects known to the outside world.
Similarly, Dr. Thapa said that today’s programme was of an international standard and there is a much need to have detail research about Kulung Rai’s history, traditions, language, scripts and their existence.
During the programme, BB Rai, president, ABKKKSRS highlighted on the future strategies of the Sangh. The programme was also addressed by Assam Lingzey panchayat president, Ganesh Chettri and representatives from south and west districts.
The programme concluded with a colourful cultural programme and also witnessed felicitations of the founder members of the Sangh.
