Gangtok, Dec 20 (HS)
The foundation stone of a huge 54 feet tall statue of ‘Nisani Kali’ will be laid by the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on 06 January at Pandam Gadi in East Sikkim. This is another ambitious project of the State government to further boost the pilgrimage tourism in the State.
A member of project construction committee, Ganesh Khanal stated that Pendam Gadi has the historical importance as Damodar Pandey, the commander of Prathvi Narayan Shah, had constructed this Gadi in Pandam and offered his prayers to ‘Nisani Kali’. He mentioned that many historical proof of the incident were present on the spot. He informed that the project has been started after the announcement made by the CM to start this project of ‘Nisani Kali’ at this historical place.
Likewise, Mr Khanal mentioned that the home stay tourism has been developed in Pendam so this project was very important for further promotion of the tourism in the area. He added that the project would attract Bengali tourists coming to Sikkim.
