A District level Debate, Elocution, Quiz, wall Painting and Essay Competition finals under the banner of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was held today at Zilla Bhavan, Mangan. The programme was attended by District Collector, North Shri Karma R Bonpo, Joint Director, HRDD, DIO, North, officers from HRDD department and students and teachers from different schools of the District.
The objective of the programme was to generate awareness on gender issues and to engage the students in such co curricular activities for overall development . The program was conceptualized to provide the much need platform to the children of the district to hone their skills by taking part in debates essay writing and elocution quiz competitions. The competition generated tremendous enthusiasm among the students and saw the participation from various schools of the district. Earlier the block level finals were held among the students and the winners participated in the district level competitions.
In the Debate Competition, the first prize was bagged by Hee Gyathang Sr Secondary School and the runners up was bagged by Mangshilla Secondary School. The Elocution completion was won by Mangshilla secondary School in the Junior Category and Phodong Sr Secondary School in the Senior category.
During the event the District Collector felicitated 12 best performing girl children in academics, with a cash prize of Rs 5000/- each under the Beti Bacho Beti Padhao Scheme.
Speaking on the occasion the District Collector dwelt on the importance of participation of the students in such co circular activities. He stated that students should cultivate the habit of reading while in school as it must necessary skill to acquire knowledge. A well read student has a great chance of success in the future and all the libraries in the schools should encourage reading. He also stated the importance of maths and science subject in today digital world where knowledge is the paramount factor in determining one economic status in the future. The District Collector stated that students doing well in science and maths have little problem in finding jobs in today world.
A wall painting competition was also organized wherein all the schools were asked to paint on the BBBP themes in their school walls. Phesong Secondary School was adjusted as the best school in the wall painting competition and the district administration provided as cash prize of Rs 10000/- to the school. Similarly Mangan Sr Secondary School and Ringhim Secondary School was provided a cash prize of Rs 5000/- each for their wall paintings.
