The Limboo community of Lingchom under Yangthang constituency today organized a massive car rally as a precursor to the upcoming Limboo New Year fest, Kokhphekwa Tongnam. The peace rally on the theme ‘Rally for unity’ was initiated by the festival organizing committee to reach out to the people of west Sikkim with necessary informations regarding the festival and also to propagate the message of brotherhood and integrity. It may be mentioned here that limboo community of Lingchom is celebrating the New Year festival, Kokhphekwa Tongnam on 13th, 14th and 15th January at Lingchom Senior Secondary School ground.
The rally today started off from Lingchom early in the morning and after reaching out to Dentam, Hee Gaon and Darap it culminated at Lingchom Senior Secondary School ground.
More than 80 light and heavy vehicles had been the part of the rally and almost 500 people from Limboo community from different parts of West Sikkim had participated in the rally.
The president of the organizing committee Purna Hang Subba Subba informed that car rally was organized not only for informing people about the upcoming Kokhphekwa Tongnam but was also for spreading message of unity, communal harmony and brotherhood among different communities of West Sikkim. Describing the rally as apolitical, Purna Hang Subba expressed that the rally was cultural and nobody should give it a political colour. “We wanted to inform the people about the upcoming fest through the rally. All the people, irrespective of any caste and communities are cordially invited in the fest”, he said.
The festival is expected to be a culturally rich event and the glitters of the three day long programme will be the cultural presentations by artists from Nepal. Trishana Gurung, a popular Nepali singer will be entertaining the audience on the last day of the festival. Traditional food stalls of different communities of Lingchom will be other attractions of the event.
