A meeting was held between the officials from HRDD, Government of Sikkim and various Sector Skill Councils at the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), New Delhi, on Dec 6.
The team was led by Additional Chief Secretary, Human Resource Department G P Upadhyaya along with Joint Secretary (H.E), Principals NBBDC and Bachelor of Vocational (B Voc) College, Dentam.
A meeting was held to resolve important issues pertaining to the B Voc courses which are currently being taught in two colleges in the State namely NBBDC, Tadong and B Voc College, Dentam.
The Additional Chief Secretary, HRDD Upadhyaya addressed the meeting where he placed the issues that the Colleges were facing. Suajit Ray, SR, Head and Rekha Menon, Head, Education from NSDC provided all the support and the Sector Skill Councils were directed to look into the issues immediately and the timeline for the same has already been prepared.
The courses offered in NBBDC, Tadong are Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Software (IT) while B Voc Dentam offers Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Software (IT), Retail and Tourism. The B Voc colleges have been introduced in our education system keeping in mind the present requirement of technical and self-sustaining job profiles in the State. The B Voc course is totally job-oriented where the students are offered an Advanced Diploma as well as a Degree.
Furthermore, the uniqueness of the B Voc Courses lies in the multiple entries and exits wherein the students can opt for a Diploma and get a job to gain some experience and if the students wish to return and complete their Degree they can re-join the College and complete their course. The Department has already provided a Virtual Lab for the Pharma Chemistry course which is the first of its kind in the whole of North East. So, in the days to come the students will definitely benefit from the B Voc courses.
