First State Level Coordination Meeting was conducted by Rural Management & Development Department at the Conference hall of Tashiling Secretariat, under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary A.K. Shrivastava to discuss and draw up an action plan for the implementation of the ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan’ in the state of Sikkim.
The meeting was attended by the Secretaries of the department of RM&DD, WS& PHE, Animal Husbandry and Water Resources and River Development. Also present amongst others were Principal Chief Engineers of RM&DD and WR&RD, DC – South , Representatives from departments of UDHD, Forest, Food and Agriculture, SMIT, Sikkim University, Nar Bahadur Bhandari Degree College, SRM, ICAR, ADC (Devs) and BDOs under South District.
The Chief Secretary addressed the gathering and briefed all on the importance of Water conservation for the State and threw light on the
ways by which wastage of Water can be reduced in our day to day life.
He also highlighted the various ways in which the respective departments could intervene and contribute in this Campaign of Water Conservation.
The Secretary, RM&DD then informed all present, on the Jal Shakti Abhiyan Campaign which has been conceptualised by the Honourable Prime Minister and is a time bound campaign starting from July 1st to September 15th for Sikkim. He informed that the JSA campaign has been started with the prime objective of Water Conservation through the means of renovation of water bodies, rain water harvesting Structures,treatment of waste water amongst other activities.
It was informed that the Campaign would be targeting 1500 nos of Water Stressed blocks covering 254 districts all across the Country and for the State of Sikkim, all the 8 blocks under South District has been identified for
implementation of this Campaign.
Additional Secretary cum PD – MGNREGA, gave a detailed presentation on
the Jal Shakti Abhiyan Campaign with the possible interventions that can be done from RM&DD to drive this Campaign towards a successful outcome. Also it was informed that various Senior Officers from the Ministry has been assigned for Monitoring purpose who will be visiting the State shortly.
The meeting concluded with a Open discussion which was participated by
all the departments present on the possible ways in which they can
contribute to this campaign in the given Time frame. The Educational Institutes also agreed to submit a detailed inputs for the action plan
by 31st July 2019, and for other Departments by 15th July 2019.
