The first edition of North East Youth Festival kicked off here at Dentam Stadium of Maneybung Dentam constituency. The three day festival organized by state’s youth development board was inaugurated by chief minister Pawan Chamling who was present in the event as chief guest. Ministers and MLAs along with other dignitaries were also present in the first day’s event.
Addressing the gathering chief minister Pawan Chamling stated that the north youth festival was organized by the state government to facilitate the youth to be the part of youth development programme. He informed that making the youth part of development oriented activities, providing the opportunity to the youth for sharing ideas, cultural and traditional values with the people of other north eastern state were other aims of the festival.
Claiming that Sikkim is one of the best state in terms of development, peace and tranquility, chief minister said that other remaining north eastern states of the country are not as prosperous and sufficient as Sikkim and they have leaking houses made of bamboo and woods without proper electricity facilities. “We have been providing free education and medical facilities to the people. Such people oriented facilities are not available in other north east states. Sikkim is the best”, he said.
Chief Minister maintained that the SDF government has worked for development and upliftment of youth through various youth based initiatives. Adding that youth empowerment and development programmes have been initiated by the state government, chief minister said that it is upon the youth to decide their future. He exhorted that the youth should explore the employment opportunities available in the state. If the youth actively take part in trade, tourism and commerce, nobody in the state will remain poor, he said.
Stating that tourism sector of the state has flourished well, chief minister stressed that for income generation, the greater participation of youth in the sector is very necessary. He expressed that opportunities meant for Sikkimese people should not be exploited by the people from outside the state. He mentioned that the state government will do anything in its capacity to make the youth self-dependent and economically independent.
Chief Minister speaking about one job one family initiative of the state government chief minister Pawan Chamling informed that 12,000 youth have been given government jobs by the state government in the first phase and other left out youth will be provided appointment order within the first week of February. He added that one job one family scheme is state government’s effort to improve the economic conditions of poor jobless people of Sikkim. He stressed that proper scrutiny should be done so that genuine people get the job.
Chief Minister announced that 5,599 muster role workers having five years’ work experience will be regularized by the state government very soon.
He further announced that the festival of Bumchu, Mangshirey Purnima of ofBhujel community and the festival of Mukhia community will be included in the list of government holidays.
Cultural and sporting activities were other attraction of the first day of the festival. Two magazines were also released today by chief minister Pawan Chamling today.
