A total of 170 runners from different walks of life have come forward in a noble initiative, Run for Reeya, held here this morning. This charity run was initiated by a Gangtok-based journalist, Dichen Ongmu to raise fund for ailing national footballer from Sikkim, Reeya Lepcha, who has been suffering from brain tumour.
She hails from West Sikkim and the collected amount from the initiative will be transferred to her parents as the financial assistance for her treatment. She is presently undergoing through further treatment at New Delhi after a surgery at Central Referral Hospital, Tadong in East Sikkim.
The run was flagged off by Marathon Man of Sikkim, Amar Subba from Titanic Park and follow the route from Titanic Park to Tibet Road, High Court of Sikkim road, Hospital Dara and then to Paljor Stadium Road and finally ended at Paljor Stadium. Marathon runners, sports enthusiasts, footballers, journalist and students have come forward to support the initiative with their participation. Finally, the run ended with the distribution of certificates to all participants.
Speaking to media, Ms Ongmu thanked her father Jeewan Lama, Marathon Man, Amar Subba, active runner, Bharati Gurung and every individual for their support. She also thanked all well-wishers, participants and donors for their contributions towards the cause. She also appealed the sports organisations to come forward to extend their support to Reeya Lepcha.
